Logo Design Asheville Holistic Dentist

Celebrating Two Years…

Asheville Holistic Dentist logo was launched February 2017 (sorry, I am two-years behind on posting my own design projects)….
Asheville is lucky to have such an enriched resource as Asheville Holistic Dentist. Yes, they are the first Holistic dentist in the area – and they have a different, kinder approach to dentistry.
After working with Asheville Holistic Dentist on their Branding, Logo Design, Illustration, Google My Business Listings, Direct Marketing, Website Design, Content Development, and SEO Services. During the design process, I got to do what I love – learn about a subject I know nothing about. Now, I do understand. Understanding my clients practice is an vital component to my design process.

For the first round of designs, we created a well-formed collection of Book Cover Designs. Each book design examines the visual concept of Balancing – more importantly Balancing Three. With a selection of graphics that explore the realm of possibilities, while reflecting the extremes. The three stacked Meringues is the lightest dessert and implies light reading. While the stacked stones – during testing – scored favorably. Often ranking first or second during the first viewing.

Doodles for life

Asheville Ink and Pen Drawing

My Life is Captured with Doodles

Doodles have been an active aspect of my design work for as long as I recall. I never talk on the phone without creating some detailed doodle. Often the doodle knows more about that phone conversation than I do.
Recently, my doodles are about creating patterns. Plants are a great example of replicating

2018 Reconnect with Paper

2018 is the year to step AWAY from the computer (yes I said that – doesn’t mean I will do it for long – but when I do I Ink & Pen). What I enjoy about drawing with ink is that I can not undo my mistakes. The ink mark is final.

Sometimes the lines are perfect, and other times they are not.

I learn more from the lines that are not correct.
The incorrect lines relate all the aspects of why one line on the paper is not as well-done as another line on the paper.

The Perfect Line

The perfect line transfers down your arm, you sense it.
You feel the correct order of the “world” when you draw the right line.
I’ve had the experience a few times, the rest of the time I try.

The perfect line is a gift.

Beginning with my photography – I select a series of business buildings for the background artwork. Using Photoshop, I removed undesired elements from the photography – cleaning windows, deleting objects from the windows, mirroring the image, and coloring to red. The live version of the background artwork had graphical animations that ran the length of the building to the center.

The Importance of Research

As a designer doing your research is always key to a successful project. The directions that were provided by the client had been pulled from the internet and were mostly incorrect. I always check the information submitted to ensure that I am creating the result that my customer needs. What’s the point in creating a directional postcard that is wrong?
I walked all the routes. Drunk coffee and discovered the most enjoyable path. I then wrote directions and created the maps for each route.

Tech Choices

CD Cover Design created for a Coffeetime Project. Now, back by popular request. With an updated Spotify playlist of 45 coffee related sounds. The CD cover is Low-Res webcam photography. The artwork images are tiny. I created the checkerboard design on the front because the photos couldn’t get much bigger without becoming entirely pixelated. There was something satisfying about working within the limitations of digital art.

Artwork Choices

The low-res quality of the image had personal appeal. Being blind in one eye, I connected. Tech was able to express my view of the world. The portrait of myself captures my visual field. With the dominant eye visible while the other not. The portrait photography mirrors from a prior painting with the same composition.

POSTER DESIGN: Modern

Poster Design by Asheville IrishGuy Design Studio

BRANDING: Create Signage.

RETRO POSTER DESIGN.
Posters have a history of connecting people. Unlike other forms of graphic design. Posters have a directness, accessibility, and simplicity.

Finding the Graphic Design Focus

When I design, I have first to discover a focus. For the Honor Night poster. I wanted the graphic design and typography to communicate something about me the designer, as well as reach everyone. I wanted to create a meaningful reference to what school had meant to me.
This retro poster design wasn’t for any Honors Night; this was my own Honors Night. For me, the poster had to reflect my school experience.
Retro Poster Design by Gary Crossey
At school, I enrolled in every art history class that was available. It was the Dada art (or anti-art) movement that resonated with me the most.
Unlike prior art movements. Dada was more a mindset than a single art style. The Dada artists dedication to questioning everything about artistic expression resounded with a creative approach. The Dada movement did borrow their visual and technical vocabulary from Futurists. Especially those contributions to visual communication and advertising.
Dada made the poster the central tool for introducing new and bold graphic design aesthetic. The Dadaists, like the Futurists, had a typographical revolution. With the typeface being the medium. The Dada artist isolated the observed values of a typeface. While providing an independent meaning to the shape of the letters that was different from the transmitted textual meaning.
The typographical revolution brought about an innovative use of typography. Where the artist questions every adjust of the design. From adjustments to the kerning (space between characters). To the use of negative white space. Allowing the layout to flow vertically, horizontally, and diagonally.
The Dada art movement enriched creative libration to the collective arts. Impacting painting, collage, sculpture, poetry, performance, photography, and graphic design. The collective spirit of Dadaism parallels directly with my creativity as a multimedia artist.

Drawing Creative Inspiration for Retro Poster Design

The most recognizable designs from the Dada era is that of the cover design for Veshch (Object). 1922 Berlin anti-government booklet. Veshch introduced using an array of different typefaces and printing on colored paper to liven up the design.
100 years later.  The retro poster design remains distinctive and modern. The design aim is to break the reader free of the traditional concept of typography.
Today the reader is now expected to explore the shape and form of text. Without having to decipher the meaning of the content. Every major brand depends on reader recognize. With shape being the first value a reader will know. Follow by color, and third the text.

CD Cover Design for Asheville Cookie La Rue

CD Cover Design. Sure it has been awhile since anyone has requested a CD cover . But, back in the day, CD’s artwork requests were quite popular. At that time, everyone wanted a CD, everyone had a CD, some people even wear CD’s as clothing accessories.
While the CD cover never did reach the same artistic  heights as the LP cover. The  CD was the last step before switching our media to an online format. Where every song, book, or show feels the same in your hand. Same weight, same shape, same.
When Asheville recording star Cookie La Rue hit me up again for more free design services.  At first, I said “NO”. I actually kept repeating “no, no, no…” and there it is I ended up with this creation.
Granted at the time, most everyone had already stopped using CD’s. Most people had even stopped using Napster. But, Cookie wanted the CD format. And that is what she got!
CD Cover Design - Asheville NC

The CD cover design of Folkin’ with you was the Blue Prior of Cookie La Rue recordings. Keeping with the  theme, I drew my inspiration from Joni Mitchell – Blue LP design.

I began the CD Cover Project as I do with many projects. I began with my camera. Shooting photos of Cookie La Rue was not pleasant. There was a huge amount of Photoshop skills need to blur out most of Cookie face – I then created the CD cover following the tone and layout as Blue LP did.
To my complete surprise – the CD release party was hughly popular. The CD went on to 2nd and 3rd reprint.

My Icon Design Process

I manage my design project with three easy steps.

  1. Discover.
  2. Design.
  3. Distribute.

ICON DESIGN – Discovery Stage.

Successful design projects begin with research and discovery. Unlike other items of graphic design. The Icon has to bashfully obey two functions.
Functions of an Icon.

  1. Be able to stand out alone.
  2. Remain part of the group.

The modern icon is not a one trick pony. A thoughtful icon will both visual unite and stand solo. The aesthetics of the icon design makes it engaging. Icons rarely function alone. Icons work harmoniously within a larger design system.
My design research begins by considering the audience. Who might use these icons? If I am designing for a company in the UK or Europe, I may reconsider some of the case symbols. Establish cultural and traditional visual guidelines.

ICON DESIGN – Design Stage.

The design problem of creating icons. An Icon has to stand apart while being the same. Keeping icons simple and easy to understand is essential.Overly complicated icons are difficult to grasp. Limit how many design elements to include.

Icon Design Perspective

Icons observation. Any which way. It is a good idea to keep your icon collection in the same Perspective. If you have your icon positioned at a particular angle – maintain the same angle for the icon collection.  Keeping a consistent viewpoint will help establish a consistent icon set style.
Universal Icon design mistakes.

  • To make elements or unnecessary elements.
  • Unnecessary styling – perspective, bevel, shadows.
  • Misunderstood metaphors.
  • Misused national, international, and social characteristics.
  • Use text in icons.
  • Including interface features in icons.
  • Insufficient individuality between icons.
  • Lack of aesthetic unity.

ICON DESIGN – Implementation Stage.

The final and most important part of the design process. Does it work? The implementation stage is more than just getting the design out there. During the Implementation Stage, I am looking for ways to improve and strengthen the design message.
Questions I ask

  • Are the icon design consistent?
  • Do the colors come together as a unit?
  • Do the icons look like they belong together?
  • If used: are the reflections, shadows, and lighting consistent?
  • Do the icons scale correctly?

Once I am happy with my answers, I then test the icons on real people. I listen carefully to feedback. And value the power of observation . I am always looking for that problematic icon – the one the everyone misunderstands.  For the icon collection success all of the icons have to work together as one language.

BRANDING Asheville Hair Salon

BRANDING Asheville Hair Salon

Asheville Logo Design - By Gary Crossey (AKA. IrishGuy)

BRANDING

Asheville Salon create beautiful, stylish, and manageable hair. Their hairstyles have a huge curbside appeal – that range from everyday wear, to formal, to high-fashion art form.

When Danielle and Greg approached me to develop their brand and logo design for their downtown Asheville hair salon. They asked that their business name be user-friendly and have a strong search engine appeal.

Asheville Salon

After much local SEO and market research I proposed Asheville Salon as the brand name.

Asheville Salon is both rememberable and rankable.

Asheville Salon Logo designed by Gary Crossey

Asheville Salon Logo Design Process

The Asheville Salon logo was a true design collaboration, that was very natural. Danielle created the sketches. I directed and refined the designs. Greg provided the much appreciated Art Direction.

Danielle wanted the logo to capture the idea of hair in motion.

During Stage One of the logo development, we explored creating the Letter A from hair. While the look is both organic and has a hand-drawn element – both visual elements that Danielle had wanted to include.

We both felt like the logo was missing a refining element. We agreed that including the Letter S was an important visual aspect for the Asheville Salon brand. I created the visual study for Danielle. I wanted to share the idea that letters can be any range of different shapes, while remaining true to their form.

With more than 20 examples of the same two letters. No two letters are visually the same – while they are all understood as the same.

Refining the Logo

With Danielle’s sketch of the letter A and S coming together into one form. I capture the sketch and refined the image.

We had reached two logo design objectives.

  1. “Hair In motion” Danielle.
  2. “Include letter A & S” Gary.

Final Revision

While we both liked the shape and motion – but with more clarity. A bit abstract is fine – but clean up the edges.

The function of a logo is to print the same every-time. The final round of design revisions were cleaning up the edges, refining colors and laying graphics to increase pop value.

GRAPHIC DESIGN: Poster

Asheville Poster Design

Graphic Design Services Asheville.

Graphic Design Services Asheville.
Graphic designers all have different approaches to creating unique posters. For me, designing a new poster is usually done in an easy to follow six-step-process.

  1. Establish a graphic design focus.
  2. Have the correct information.
  3. Be creative.
  4. Use Typography.
  5. Balance the Design.
  6. Print Poster.

Establish Graphic Design Focus.

Having a graphic design focus is a good starting point for any creative project. Posters are unique creations that are much more than typesetting. Posters are created to inform the public. To be successful, a poster has to connect with the viewer.
Depending on how complex the content is. Establishing a strong graphic design focus may require serious consideration and research.
For the Girl Scout Poster, the board members wanted a design that would reflect the event. Fun & Elegant Black Tie Cookie Cook-Off. Featuring desserts by eight Asheville chefs. Served with a full range of wines from Asheville.

Asheville Graphic Design Sample

Asheville Poster Design

Graphic Design Process.

After research. I begin drawing thumbnails. The thumbnail designs are more about form and function. And coming to understand and connect with the content. Each of the three mock-ups presented a strong modern approach to the poster.

While the board liked all the graphic design mock-ups.  The Urban Illustration Layout was approved by the board to be the official poster design. The other two mock-ups were liked so much, that they were adapted to email blasts for the same event.
While designing the poster my first consideration was to not feature one person more than anyone else. The event included eight well-known Asheville chefs – with the most amazing array of desserts. The event was a celebration of many  talents coming together as a supportive community. So with that idea, I did not feature any of the chefs desserts.
At the time, I was working on a character design that the Asheville board liked.  It was great fun, seeing my illustration bring life to the poster.

Asheville Poster Design

Have the Correct Information.

No matter how good your design is, if the information is not correct – the graphic design fails. Always re-check information. Clients get basic information wrong. Include the address, date, time, and cost.

Be Creative.

The poster is there to connect and stir interest for the viewer. With creativity in the details. Posters have a historical placement. Design trends have launched from posters. Wars have been won and lost over posters. Women, men, and children have united to the call on a poster.

Use Typography.

Yes, use the correct typography. Posters scream to use typefaces. I locate type design that relates to the event. For content, I like the typeface to clean and easy to read.

Balance the Design.

Rework the design. Tweak and improve. Refine the details. It’s not about design perfection. It’s about refined graphic design.

Asheville Graphic Design

Print Poster.

I like to help guide my clients through the printing process. I understand the paper. I know ink. I practice color theory. Use readable fonts. I use the correct printer (for the job).
A poster is designed correctly when the final print is incredible.

POSTER DESIGN: Learn

Asheville Graphic Design Poster Sample by IrishGuyGary Crossey

Asheville Poster Design Sample

As a graphic designer, creating a poster design is always a fun project. For me each poster is a new graphic design journey. Especially, for the The Journey of Creativity series. Some of my most memorable moments as a graphic designer involve the thrill of unwrapping large format print jobs. One incorrect fold and that high-gloss photography finish will ruin the impact.
Thankfully, most of my early design years were spent in the darkroom, processing photography. Granted, I learnt all my lessons the hard way. Which is why this graphic design theme of “Learn from Failure” holds true to me.
I am always discovering new aspects of graphic design, videography, and interactive design. Most recently I discovered the value of the creative journey. I reflect on the planning process and production. I review the graphic design and typography. And I appreciate and recognize the different skills that come together to create.
The Journey of Creativity – Learn From Failure Poster and Short Video Animation were designed for the Asheville Adobe Digital Creativity class. The graphic design from the poster was used as part of a short video promotion and a mobile ready website prototype.

The graphic design came from the Asheville production of Alice. The Mountain Xpress is a huge supporter of the local arts and the Asheville community. They featured my graphic design work from the “Rose Garden” scene of the production.

Here is the Asheville Mountain Xpress cover, design by Gary Crossey.

POSTER DESIGN

Barefoot in the Park

There is always something special about creating a poster. First off, I like when 1000’s of them arrive and are eager to be hung.

However, working on a poster for a well known production can be difficult. As you want to create something new, or at least a little different. While still remaining true to the production.

How the images were created

While creating the foot image for the poster, I first went to the studio and photographed feet. After many hours of working with the images that I had shot I started over. The second time I reshoot the images in a flatbed scanner. I wanted the feet to look like they were being pressed on. That the bearfoot was altogether goo. The scanner provided a flatness to the toes – that I after. Made the toes slightly wider and more present.

At the same time I began to scan a collection of dry leafs. In Photoshop, the leafs were layered on top of one another.

Photoshop Magic

You gotta love the tools of Photoshop. I wanted to create something that would pull the type design and the strong graphic of the feet. I wanted the image to soft, almost not seen. The leaf was the creation – painted mostly in Photoshop. The leaf was a really fun image to create.

While it may be true that some masks are easy to make.
It is also true that other masks are difficult to create.

Detailed masking does require skill, time, and knowledge. Understanding the strengths and limitations of Photoshop masking tools is essential to creating quick, clean, and precise masks.

Yes there is an art in the graphic design and typesetting to create a monthly newsletter. There is also a mastery for content development and management needed. Along with a solid project workflow.
The project workflow that I created for Charlotte Street Computers greatly reduced the cost and turn around time. Labor time was great reduced. While printing costs were reduced by 85%. Simply by printing the trifold in Black and White, and on an cheaper recycled paper.
The trifold was an important element to the success of the Asheville computer training classes. Students feedback indicated that the trifold was their first go-to for class information.
Irishguy Gary Crossey created trifold for Asheville business Charlotte Street Computers.
Technology Aided Graphic Design
Creating a Google App to extract Google Calendar data to a Spreadsheet was the biggest time saver. The app saved hours of data entry labor – and greatly reduced user error input. Computer Training Classes, and updates were entered directly into Google Calendar.
I then had Google Calendar automatically update all the related material for instructors, support staff, students, graphic design projects, website content, and newsletter content. No more double entering content – or having to email updates to the other team members and students.

Asheville Graphic Design Samples

Included below are three samples of the monthly trifold newsletter. Each month while the graphic design style remained the same. Fine adjustments to layout and typesetting were made to highlight and organize classes.

The Workflow for Creating a TriFold

  • Google Calendar
    • Enter class time, description, location, cost, class files, enrollment instructions.
    • Embed Public Google Calendar in website – in agenda format.
      • Provides support staff up-to-date class details.
      • New classes automatically appears on calendar followers.
        • All students are shown how to (and encouraged) to follow the Public Google Calendar.
      • Google Calendar events are searchable and can rank.
  • Google Spreadsheet

BOOK: Facebook for Business

Book Design by Gary Crossey

Facebook for Business Book

Writing the book Facebook for Business was an essential to the success of my class. I first developed the Facebook for Business class as an online class. Offered directly from my website. I later developed the the class into a six hour presentation, which I taught at Asheville–Buncombe Technical Community College. I later moved the Facebook for Business class to Charlotte Street Computers.
Reducing the Facebook for Business class to 3 hours made the class length more practical for business owners. And adding the Facebook for Business book for future use. The students could access the Facebook for Business book for one year after the class.
For many people this was the first time that they were working with a living document. Given how often Facebook is updated and changes, my book would update too. Providing my students with the most current solutions available.

Over time the purpose of the website header banner changed, here are four different designs that were published.
Keeping with the same bright, cheerful color palette, I created an array of website banner ads for the launch of the Asheville Adobe User Group, and the Facebook Business profile graphic for the Asheville Adobe User Facebook page.

BRANDING Beach Mountain Resort

BRANDING Beach Mountain Resort

Beach Mountain began as a two location project. Bringing together a trendy South Beach condo with a rural North Carolina farm into one brand was a fun project. Creating the combination of mountain and umbrella graphics seemed appropriate.
UMBRELLA GRAPHIC The umbrella was a smartphone shot in South Beach. I later rendered the image in Adobe Illustrator.
A logo should stand up and be clear. When the document is printed, the product is stocked, or your brand is stitched – that brand ID needs to deliver and connect. Having a strong typeface is essential for a strong brand. If your logo does not work in black and white – redesign the logo (there is a bite out of the apple). Seriously, a logo needs to reach your target market. That logo needs to stand true when it is printed from a cheap home printer, or scanned from any computer by any user, or faxed on the most problematic fax machine.
GRAPHIC POSTER: Two locations bought together with photography and graphic design. The poster includes the new Beach Mountain brand (mountains and umbrella). The poster was the first time that Beach Mountain used the stylish ID initials – which later became an active company insignia.

MOUNTAIN GRAPHIC was created by capturing the Beach Mountain mountain range. The mountain graphic later became a strong design element to enhance the logo when used in print and website banners.

Print Ads – Asheville

An experienced graphic designer understands that at times there are limitations. In the print world you have to be aware of ink, paper, printer experience, and maintaining readability.
For Enter the Earth Asheville, I created a template approach to their ads – as the information would change slightly between ads. The owner also like to create instant handouts – I created a 4up black and white ad that he could take to FedEx and make hundreds of copies for a low cost. Using this method allowed the owner to customize his message for each trade show, while waiting to print on-demand would reduce the overall printing costs.

Oh the days of business cards. These little paper notices that sought your attention. The business card doesn’t play the same role that it used to. Today ranking number 1 for your search term will generate more customers.

But in keeping true to our brand our Business Card has a clean, precise design. With rich reds and hot pinks that balance with the stark  white. The front of the business card was a high gloss, while the back has a smooth matt contrast.

Designing for a Brand

Early in the design process, a robust and bold color palette for Irish Guy Productions was created, NO green!  Blue was removed during the early design submissions – as it may be perceived too masculine when paired with “Irish Guy.”
The color branding for Irish Guy Productions ranges from soft candy pink to hot pink.
Designing a business card for a brand couldn’t be easier. And, for most businesses, should be the first graphic design service you have when you can just relax. A business card project means that your business logo is done (whoo hoo!)
Creating a business card is that first project that will follow your Business Branding Rules. For those businesses or groups who have done the work to define a well-formed Brand Package – then the business card is a time to REJOICE and ENJOY your hard work. During the Business Card Graphic Design process look for design discrepancies from misinterpreting the Branding Guidelines.

Asheville Print Advertising.

For most businesses print advertising is that extra word-of-mouth. While most businesses do benefit from marketing – you do have to know when and where you advertising dollar is best spent.
For the series of prints advertising designs I had to first photograph the products. Once I had the photography collection I created a base template with InDesign.
While the template did serve to reduce graphic design time – by bringing all the design assets (logo, photography, styles) together into one place. The ads were always different sizes, with different artwork, and a different list of features – which always required design considerations.

GRAPHIC DESIGN: Print Ads

Black and White Print Ads

Print Ads for small Asheville business. I created a large series of black and white print ads for Asheville ETE. The ads appeared in trade show mags to promote the locate of booth and update customers on current product line.

Product Photography for Print Ads

The ads include my product photography. I did the photography for ETE. Here are some of my product photography samples that were used in these print ads. Often the test of design is – does it hold up in black and white? In the case of my Asheville print ads. I designed the ads and shot product photography to stand up to being printed in black and white.

Black and White Print Ads – Simple handout. The client often needed extra hand outs at certain events. “Certain” events – meaning that upon arriving at a trade show the client would quickly discover if the trade show was busy or not. On off years trade show numbers were off. To off set the huge printing and marketing budget for my client I created a simple ad that he was able to have printed at quick print (when he needed extra hand outs). The handout does not include product photography – as I was never quite sure how the print job would be. The client was instructed to have the flyers printed onto a mix of color paper.

How I designed my Asheville print ad series

When I design for a print ad series.  I begin with reason and logic. It is important for me to visualize the big picture. For me to connect with the target market. And for the print ads to reach their goal.
Questions I asked before I designed my Asheville print ad series.

  • Who will see these print ads?
  • What do they need to know?
  • What are they looking for?

Asheville Print Ad sample by Gary Crossey

Asheville Print Ad Elements

While some people can claim graphic design for a print ad. That is not the case with this series of print ads. All design aspects of this project were handled by Irish Guy.

  • Logo Design – Created Brian Jones & Gary Crossey.
  • Product Photography – Gary Crossey.
  • Graphic Design for Print Ad – Gary Crossey.

Ground Work for Graphic Design

This project required layers of planning. Photos of the products had to first be taken. Given the reflective nature of the product line creating print quality images is difficult.  Each picture required a custom approach. The photo collection I created was quickly approved.
A series of print ads followed. To ensure print quality – I handed all of the digital files for the printer. Providing the printer whatever format best meet their needs.
The print ads ran in a national trade mag. Reprints of the ads also ran. Different versions of the ad ran – with various product line changes and feature product.

What direct the design choices for the print ad?

I did my research. I reviewed years of similar trade show mags. Their primary focus is BUSY. Overload of images – everyone is trying out do everyone else. Which is fine. As long as you use graphic design and typography principles to reach your target market.
Or limit your you curbside appeal – and pile everything into your ad.  For this series of print ads – the client wanted to set his higher quality product line apart from everyone else. Some of the lines they have global exclusive rights to.
The design focused on either one featured item. Or, a small collection of similar high quality items.
The marketing  objective of the print ads was too provide the location of the Trade Show booth. And an insight to their featured product line. Most participants of the trade show first review the trade show magazine for vector booths they want to attend. I trimmed the ads with bright memorable colors. Making the ads easy locate in the mass of other ads.

Reduce Graphic Design Costs

To reduce graphic design costs the print ads were converted into InDesign templates. The templates were easy and fast to update with new feature photography and product listings. The templates had four different variations that could be adjusted for most basic print requirements. The template deployment saved my clients hundred of hours in labor costs – that was better used to advertising costs.

Business Card Design for Asheville Firm

Asheville Business Card Design by IrishGuy Graphic Design
The Fastfwd Website Hosting Business Card design worked so well. The print job was perfect (and very cheap). The front of the business card is covered with a UV coat. The UV coat adds a layer of shine. The UV coat also saturates the colors. In the case of the Asheville Fastfwd Business Card design – the bold red to black design bars really popped!
Graphic Design by Gary Crossey aka IrishGuy. Business card design for Fastfwd Asheville.
The great thing about my design. I create all of it. The patterns I use I either photograph or draw. I am not online searching for the images I need to make my point of view. I control my design and development (unless its collaborative – even then with strong design options).
The first design option I have as a graphic designer. Create your own. With the Fastfwd business card design. I wanted the visual to be something grounding but with motion.
Weeks before I had photographed the Belfast Airport. The outer walls have these amazing piped walls. The grooves and highlights provided me with the motion. Including an element from home provided the grounding.
While most of Belfast Airport exterior photography does not include the wall fasting. I chose to include the fasting on the business card. The knot was the active working part of the walk – without the knots are work – the wall will blow away. The knots were the design and tech crew at Fastfwd.
The front of the business card design was the company overview. The back of the Fastfwd Business Card is a micro view of the personal contact information.
The back of the business card is the same image zoomed into a section of the photograph. The crop was tight to create the sense of self. One person. Following with heavy white type – I added the contact information.  With phone contact on the left. And online contact on the right. The contrast between red, black and heavy white was perfect for the cheap print job.  I am a firm believer, if you use cheap printing – do make it difficult.
The Asheville Fastfwd Business Card Design follows all the basic rules of graphic design. And, printed perfectly for less than $0.001 each! Now that is good graphic design.
NOTE: Fastfwd Media Design is now Fastfwd Online Services.
